For the second year in a row, the University of Minnesota (U of M) participated in the Times Higher Ed Impact Rankings (THE Impact Rankings), which in 2023 ranked submissions for 1,591 institutions from 112 countries/regions.

A delegation led by Quoc Dzung Nguyen, Ambassador of Vietnam in the United States, visited the Twin Cities campus on June 30 to learn more about the many UMN-Vietnam partnerships and discuss opportunities to expand engagement. 

Dr. Carola Weil will serve as the University of Minnesota’s next vice provost for international affairs and senior international officer, effective August 24, 2026. Dr. Weil will lead the Global Programs and Strategy Alliance—the University’s central international office—and continue to advance the University as a global leader in international teaching, research, and outreach.

Ava Matza, a political science major and rising senior who studied abroad on the Learning Abroad Center’s Summer in Sicily program in summer 2025, has published a research paper in The Tulane Journal of Policy & Political Economy.

The Global Programs and Strategy Alliance (GPS Alliance) and the Research and Innovation Office (RIO) are pleased to announce the first four project winners under the new UMN–SNU Research Partnership Seed Grant Program.

This spring, the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities honored more than 70 students with the President's Student Leadership & Service Award (PSLSA) for exceptional leadership and service to the University and surrounding community. Winners were nominated by UMN students, staff, or faculty via an essay describing the student's extraordinary leadership and service as well as their impact on the University.

Three teams competed in the China Center's sixth annual China Bridge Challenge, a case competition that invites cross-cultural student teams to tackle the challenges of the U.S.–China relationship and propose a solution based on a given theme. 

In her Minnesota Somali community, author and educator Marian Hassan has long been a proponent of oral language preservation: She has interviewed Somali grandmothers and led sharing circles to hear the grandmothers’ stories and lullabies. But she was becoming aware of a growing problem: Somali children in Minnesota were rapidly losing their home language, and Somali elders—the keepers of the language and culture—were aging.
