Carola Weil (PhD, PMP) is the Vice Provost for International Affairs, starting in August 2026. As the University of Minnesota’s Senior International Officer, she leads the Global Programs and Strategy Alliance—the University’s central international office—and advances the University as a global leader in international teaching, research, and outreach. She also is affiliated with the Institute for Global Studies as a Senior Lecturer. She is an accomplished academic, public‑interest leader, and strategist with more than 25 years of experience advancing mission‑driven education, civic engagement, and global partnerships. 

Weil most recently served as Dean of Continuing Studies and Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at McGill University, where she led a multidisciplinary faculty serving 5,500+ learners annually and steered major initiatives in workforce development, internationalization, and community access. Vice Provost Weil previously served as Founding Dean of American University’s School of Professional & Extended Studies and held senior roles at the University of Southern California, the United States Institute of Peace, the Center for International Development and Conflict Management, Women in International Security, and the Friedrich‑Ebert Foundation. 

Weil’s scholarship is in international relations and public policy with a focus on humanitarianism, forced migration, gender, and the Global South—especially Sub-Saharan Africa. She holds degrees from the University of Maryland and Bryn Mawr College, and postdoctoral fellowships with Harvard University’s JFK School of Government and the University of Southern California. She is tri-lingual and a dual U.S.-German citizen, with work and living experience on most continents.
