The Global Programs and Strategy Alliance is pleased to announce the 2022 recipients of the all-University Award for Global Engagement — an award given to faculty and staff members of the University of Minnesota in recognition of outstanding contributions to global education and international programs at the University, or in their field or discipline.

This year’s recipients include Maria Hordinsky (Professor and Chair, Department of Dermatology; Medical School; Twin Cities), Claudia Muñoz-Zanzi (Associate Professor of Environmental Health Sciences, School of Public Health; Twin Cities), and Dan Nolan (Assistant Professor, German Studies; College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences; Duluth). Their work encourages international understanding, global engagement, international education, and building connections across differences at home and abroad.

Maria Hordinsky has been actively engaged in an international exchange program in the area of hair diseases since 2013 with the University of São Paulo in Brazil. Specifically, her international collaborations advance the understanding of neuroinflammatory alopecia, with trainees at the University of Minnesota learning from dermatologists in India, Switzerland, Brazil, and other countries.

Claudia Muñoz-Zanzi played a critical role in the development of the Global Health minor and certificate at the University of Minnesota, and currently serves as program director. She has mentored more than four dozen University of Minnesota students — 24 of whom pursued global health work in Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Puerto Rico, and Uganda

Dan Nolan develops and oversees Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) programs at the University of Minnesota, Duluth, to help faculty develop international learning experiences that connect students with peers around the world. Partnering countries in this initiative include Ghana, Finland, Uganda, Morocco, Canada, Germany, England, South Africa, Spain, Czech Republic, China, Russia, Mexico, and New Zealand.
