Dr. Maria K. Hordinsky is an award-winning expert and researcher in hair diseases and the peripheral nervous system as it relates to hair follicle biology, currently serving as the Director of the Department of Dermatology’s Clinical Research Division.

Since 2013, Dr. Hordinsky has been actively engaged in an international exchange program primarily in the area of hair diseases with the University of São Paulo in Brazil. Specifically, her international collaborations advance the understanding of neuroinflammatory alopecia, with trainees at the University of Minnesota learning from dermatologists in India, Switzerland, Brazil, and other countries.

She played a pivotal role in the expansion of the North American Hair Research Society (NAHRS) that once only included the U.S. and Canada to also include Central and South American countries. Now known as the American Hair Research Society (AHRS), the organization creates worldwide collaborations that make advancements in hair research possible.

Dr. Hordinsky has been named among top doctors by Mpls.St.Paul Magazine, one of the best doctors for women by Minnesota Monthly, and Best Doctor by Minnesota Monthly. She has received the National Research Service Award from the Dermatology Foundation, the Humanism in Medicine Award from the University of Minnesota and Minnesota Medical Foundation, and Teacher of the Year from the Department of Dermatology.
