After a four-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the 2024 Internationalizing the Curriculum and Campus (ICC) Conference returned on Friday, March 22. More than 200 faculty, staff, and students from all five system campuses gathered at the conference to share and learn about the work driving global learning forward at the University.

The conference was last held in late February 2020, on the eve of the pandemic, so the theme of Leveraging New Realities: Innovations, Successes, and Challenges was chosen to highlight the adapting of efforts toward internationalization to new and ever-evolving realities.

The conference included 23 total sessions over the course of the day with topics ranging from a workshop addressing xenophobia to a presentation on how language courses are utilizing TikTok. A poster fair highlighted an additional 12 projects that are internationalizing the campus.

During the lunch program, attendees heard remarks from Yuliya Kartoshkina, Cathy Huber, and Ann Smith of the ICC team, Provost Rachel T.A. Croson, and Vice Provost for International Programs Harvey Charles.

“The work of internationalization fundamentally is about transforming institutions and transforming lives,” said Dr. Charles as he expressed the importance of the work of internationalization and his hope for the future of the University. He also introduced the new Assistant Vice Provost for ICC, Stephanie Doscher, who will join the ICC team and the GPS Alliance on May 31.

“Her work as a scholar and a practitioner now places the University of Minnesota squarely as possibly the leading University with the depth and breadth to tackle the range of initiatives that constitutes curriculum internationalization,” said Dr. Charles.
