How are issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion being discussed around the world?

This Global DEI Initiative webinar featured three panelists who shared how DEI is defined and discussed in Denmark, Italy, and South Korea. They also shared how DEI — and their own intersectionality — shows up for them in both personal and professional contexts.

Panelists

Seoyeon Bae, Marketing Specialist, Cummins, Inc. (From South Korea, currently living in Minneapolis, MN)

Seoyeon Bae is a recent grad from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities with their B.S. degree in Psychology and Strategic Communication. After graduating in December 2021, they joined Cummins as a Marketing Specialist and has been serving as a member of the DEI committee for the East Asian Employee Resource Group (ERG) and PRIDE ERG. Seoyeon also works with NAMI Minnesota as a Peer Support Group Facilitator and a board member for the Multicultural Young Adults Advisory Board to increase mental health awareness in marginalized communities.

Mariarosa Mettifogo, Academic Coordinator, Accent Global Learning (Florence, Italy)

Mariarosa Mettifogo serves as Academic Coordinator for the University of Minnesota Study & Intern program at the Accent Global Learning Center in Florence, where she also coordinates the UCEAP programs in Florence, leads workshops on intercultural learning, and teaches a course on Florence in Literature. She holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of California, Davis, and has been working in the field of international education for 15+ years.

Shadé Osifuye, Academic Counselor and Accommodations Specialist, DIS: Study Abroad in Scandinavia (Copenhagen, Denmark)

Shadé Osifuye joined DIS: Study Abroad in Scandinavia as Academic Counselor and Accommodations Specialist in 2021. They previously held positions as assistant director of the Student Disability Center and as an education abroad coordinator at Colorado State University. They received their M.A. in Multicultural Teaching and Learning from the University of Minnesota.
