Challenges Students Face in Collaborations with International Universities, Technology, Language, Cultural Diversity
Online via Zoom
In this meeting, we will begin with a cultural icebreaker activity to set an engaging and participatory tone. Next, we will address some of the most pressing challenges faced by the Honduran population, including economic struggles, political instability, migration, judicial issues, social inequalities, and difficulties in education and health. We will also discuss the impacts of natural disasters, violence, and corruption, which hinder the country's economic progress.
In the second half of this meeting, we will explore the specific challenges our students encounter when collaborating with peers from other countries. Together we will discuss strategies to foster greater mutual understanding, emphasizing ways to bridge cultural and academic gaps. Finally, we will conclude by highlighting the learning opportunities that collaborative projects can offer both Honduran and American students, creating pathways for shared growth and development.
From January 28 to January 30, 2025, the UMN COIL Initiative is pleased to host Professor Jorge Matamoros, COIL Coordinator at the Languages Center at the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional Francisco Morazán in Honduras. Professor Matamoros has played a key role in several large-scale COIL development projects in Central America.
We are hosting two other events with Professor Matamoros:
- January 30: COIL in Honduras and Central America: Progress and New Opportunities for Collaboration, in-person event at the Duluth campus
- January 31: Challenges Students Face in Collaborations with International Universities, Technology, Language, Cultural Diversity, online via Zoom
