Dr. Katy Chapman is a distinguished scholar and educator with a profound commitment to international education. Over the years, Dr. Chapman has been recognized with numerous awards, including the C. Eugene Allen Award for Innovative International Initiatives (2016), the Distinguished Scholar Award (2017), and the Distinguished Faculty Service Award (2020). Her dedication to supporting international students was acknowledged with the Outstanding Support of International Students award in 2017. Activities that resulted in these awards include internationalizing the biology and environmental sciences programs at the University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC), demonstrating leadership in both her discipline and the University system.

In addition, Dr. Chapman has led study abroad programs and provided research and development opportunities for international students over the years through her scholarly work and through internships in the Office of Sustainability at UMC, which Dr. Chapman directs. She has also made significant contributions to service learning, earning the Outstanding Faculty Service Learning Award in 2011. Her scholarly work includes co-editing “The Power of One: Theories, Strategies, and Case Studies in Internationalizing the Student Experience” and authoring multiple chapters and articles on internationalizing curriculum in the sciences.

Dr. Chapman’s involvement in international education extends beyond her research and publications. She has actively participated in various professional meetings and conferences, presenting on topics such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals and internationalizing teaching and learning. As an educator, Dr. Chapman has mentored numerous cohorts of faculty in internationalizing their curriculum and has served on several university-wide committees, including the International Teaching and Learning Committee, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Metrics Team, and a team of faculty and administrators exploring a relationship with a network of European universities called the AURORA network. Dr. Chapman’s work exemplifies a commitment to fostering global learning and sustainability in higher education.
