GlobalThe University of Minnesota Scholars Academy, housed under the Global Programs and Strategy Alliance, stands as a hub of academic excellence and innovative learning.
With a commitment to fostering intellectual growth and professional development, the Academy offers specialized programs aimed at equipping scholars with the skills and knowledge essential for navigating today’s dynamic global landscape. Scholars will receive a Certificate of Completion signed by senior university administrators at the end of the program.
Program Model
Core Components
Ranging from one semester to a full year, visiting scholars will benefit from the rich academic resources and renowned faculty of the University of Minnesota, gaining access to a wealth of knowledge and a diverse learning environment. Programs are tailored to the needs of the scholar. A typical program may include the following core components as appropriate:
- Faculty Networking: Scholars will connect to a network of world-class university faculty and experts in their professional and academic fields, joining a dynamic intellectual exchange on campus that will guide their understanding of theory to practice in their discipline.
- Academic Enrichment: A series of seminars and lectures on topics relevant to the scholar’s fields of study deepens the scholar’s knowledge, introduces them to cutting-edge research and discussions, and enhances their academic engagement.
- Cross-Cultural Understanding: A specialized cross-cultural seminar can help scholars understand and navigate the U.S. educational system. This seminar also aims to enrich the scholar’s experience in the U.S. by providing insights into American culture and academic practices.
- Professional Exploration: To extend learning beyond theoretical knowledge, the program includes professional visits to businesses, government agencies, and other relevant institutions in Minnesota. These visits offer practical insights into how academic research and knowledge are applied in professional settings, facilitating valuable networking opportunities and real-world exposure.
Additional Offerings
The Scholars Academy program enriches the visiting scholars' experience through several key additional offerings:
- Welcome Program and Orientation: Initiates the scholar's journey, providing essential information and setting a collaborative tone
- Final Symposium and Farewell Event: Allows scholars to present their research findings, fosters academic exchange and collaboration, and celebrates their accomplishments and time spent at the University
- Completion Certificate: Officially recognizes each scholar's dedication and contributions, marking their successful participation in the program
