Jim Blackburn is a 1973 Doctor of Pharmacy graduate from the University of Minnesota, an extremely distinguished member of the College of Pharmacy's initial PharmD class. Having a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy Degree from the University of Saskatchewan and a Master of Science in Hospital Pharmacy Degree from the University of Iowa, Dr. Blackburn has been a recognized leader in pharmacy education, medication use, and health care in Saskatchewan and all of Canada since 1973. A life member of the University of Minnesota Alumni Association, Dr. Blackburn has received numerous honors and awards. He is a giant who has contributed widely to his profession, to health care, and to the community in which he lives.

As an educator, Dr. Blackburn not only contributed at the local level in Saskatchewan, but he had a major impact across Canada. As an innovator, he published books on herbal products when the topic was becoming a topic of much greater interest. As a researcher, he conducted studies in a wide range of areas related to pharmacy, health care, public policy, and practice. As a leader, he headed a diverse range of organizations. Dr. Blackburn has contributed so well in so many areas.

Dr. Blackburn is a Minnesota educated leader who has truly made a difference as a leader throughout Canada and done so in such an outstanding way. Dr. Blackburn is an exceptionally well- rounded person who has been a recognized pharmacist researcher and pharmacy educator. He has been a public health leader contributing to health care and the general public and a volunteer leader at his alma mater, the University of Saskatchewan. He is truly a distinguished international graduate of the University of Minnesota.

In naming Dr. Blackburn as a recipient of the Distinguished Leadership Award for Internationals, the selection committee acknowledges his outstanding contributions to his profession as well as his ongoing connection the University of Minnesota.
