Office for Student Affairs
Twin Cities

Dr. June Nobbe contributes significantly to global engagement through her inspirational vision, leadership, and mentorship. Over the last 30 years she has successfully woven intercultural and global learning into curricular, co-curricular, and institutional initiatives. Dr. Nobbe’s contributions to international education uniquely span study abroad, international student experiences, and campus partnerships in novel and deeply impactful ways; and her leadership has influenced countless students, staff, and faculty both at home and abroad.

As a co-founder of the Undergraduate Leadership Minor, Dr. Nobbe gathered partners across the University, designed the curriculum, and directed the program. She made watershed changes to the minor with a capstone course on Global Citizenship and the infusion of intercultural development into instructor training.

Dr. Nobbe has repeatedly distinguished herself through innovative curriculum development and instructional methods that promote cultural competency development and understanding of global perspectives. She developed an intercultural curriculum in the leadership minor and study abroad offerings, focusing on experiential learning and cross national interactions as a key to developing an understanding of oneself as a cultural being and how that framework influences perception and behavior. She partnered these experiences with reflection, affording students the opportunity to be challenged and supported in developing new frameworks for critically examining their communities and experiences.

Dr. Nobbe excels at initiating innovative partnerships to increase international student engagement and sense of belonging. She has institutionalized opportunities to understand international student experiences through the International Student Advisory Board. She launched programming partnerships between International Student and Scholar Services, Recreation and Wellness, the Ski-U-Crew Spirit Initiative, Gopher Sports, and the Leadership Minor focused on building community between international students, with U.S. students, and with the Student Affairs units. These partnerships continue to develop and foster new ways for students to have meaningful opportunities to develop leadership skills and learn from one another.
