Definition of Global Competence

We surveyed more than 200 University of Minnesota faculty and staff who attended our 2010 Internationalizing the Curriculum and Campus conference in order to create a working definition of “global competency”:

“To be globally competent, University of Minnesota students, staff, and faculty will demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and perspectives necessary to understand the world and work effectively to improve it.”

By comprehensively internationalizing the University and its teaching and learning mission, we will move another step toward accomplishing the University’s educational mission of graduating all, not just some, students as global citizens.
