What is Internationalizing the Curriculum and Campus?
Internationalizing the Curriculum and Campus includes all learning experiences through which students, faculty, and staff gain global and intercultural competences. Through this initiative, we seek to develop faculty and staff capacity to enrich curricula and develop pedagogy that focuses on global learning outcomes. Whether these experiences happen through on-campus learning or on study abroad programs, the goal of internationalizing the curriculum and campus is to ensure that all students have access to global learning experiences.
The answer is simple: we believe that all students benefit from global learning experiences. All students, whether or not they choose to study abroad, should have access to global learning experiences. In today’s world, individuals must be globally-minded and have the ability to work collaboratively in diverse settings. University of Minnesota graduates will be prepared to meet the challenges of the 21st century workplace. By comprehensively internationalizing the curriculum and campus, we move closer to accomplishing the University of Minnesota’s educational mission of graduating all students as global citizens.
The following questions guide our efforts to internationalize the curriculum and campus. These questions allow us to consider internationalization in multiple contexts across disciplines and units in both the curriculum and co-curriculum.

- What are our definitions of global citizen, global learning, and global competency?
- What skills, knowledge, and attitudes do faculty and staff need in order to help students develop their competencies?
