60th Anniversary of University of Minnesota-Freie Universität Student Exchange
The University of Minnesota-Freie Universität exchange program is the oldest continuous exchange program at the University of Minnesota. Founded by students in 1952, it is still characterized by active student participation. In honor of the 60th anniversary of the exchange, the University of Minnesota hosted a delegation from the Freie Universität in May 2102. A new agreement was signed and the anniversary celebrated at a reception on May 18, 2012, at the University's Campus Club. More than 40 exchange alumni, U of M faculty and staff, and members of the community attended.

With this 60th anniversary, we are beginning a new chapter in the successful
relationship between FU and the U of M. We are expanding the exchange to allow for faculty and staff participation and increasing the number of students who will annually travel each way from one to five. As follow-up we will continue to reach out to the 150 individuals who have participated in the exchange since 1952.
- Please review the list and help us find the missing alumni.
Many alumni sent in photos and memories from their time on the exchange. (Download the slideshow that was presented at the reception.) We are still gathering memories to help us create a 60th anniversary book:
- Upload “then and now” photos or stories about your time abroad via Facebook or email.
- Share your thoughts on this question via Facebook or email: Looking back on your IRSEP exchange experience, how has it informed your life and career since your days as an exchange student?
- Make a short (10-20 second) video with your smart phone and email it to us. Tell us who you are, where you are living now, and what you are doing. Share one thing you remember from your experience abroad.
